Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants are an excellent way to restore your dentition and maintain a healthy, beautiful smile. For one thing, they can help provide a strong foundation for artificial teeth and keep them firmly in place, which helps individuals feel more secure when speaking and eating. Additionally, dental implants look and function just as natural teeth do. So, whether you’re talking or smiling, no one will be able to tell the difference.

Furthermore, instead of dental bridges, denture partials, and dentures that may need to be replaced every few years due to general wear and tear, dental implants can last for decades (if not indefinitely) with proper care and maintenance. Plus, since they integrate with the jawbone like natural teeth, dental implants help preserve its structure over time, whereas other tooth replacement devices don’t provide the same level of support.

With all these fantastic benefits and more, it’s no wonder why so many people are turning to dental implants as a lasting repair option!

Expect Caring and Compassionate Care

Delivering dental care with empathy and kindness is vital to patients of all ages. Once you sit in one of our comfortable dental chairs, here’s what one can expect:

Initial Consultation

At this first meeting, Dr. Collantes will evaluate your teeth, gums, bite, and jawbones in detail. Aside from a physical exam, we will take x-rays and 3D CBCT scans to capture highly detailed 3D images of the head. After carefully examining your anatomy, listening to your needs, and discussing dental implants cost, Dr. Collantes will verify if you qualify for dental implants or offer an alternative tooth replacement option.

Preliminary Procedures

If you have severe decay, Dr. Collantes might suggest removing severely damaged teeth or adding volume back to your jawbone with a bone graft before officially starting the dental implant procedure. After your gums have healed, she will take impressions of your smile.

Oral Surgeries

As the adage goes, Rome was not built in a day—and dental implants also take some time to fuse to the bone securely. After the first placement surgery, tooth implants can take 3 to 6 months for successful osseointegration.

Once the bone fully supports the implant post, Dr. Collantes will schedule a second surgery to place the abutment (connecting piece) to the dental implant. Also, your dental implant dentist will take impressions to ensure that your final crown fits perfectly and place a temporary crown over the abutment.

Final Fitting

The examination thoroughly assesses the dental implant-supported device’s fit, quality, and stability. Your oral health is also assessed to ensure the new dental restoration does not place excessive strain on your jaw or cause damage to areas such as the roof of your mouth.

Post-Treatment Maintenance

Fortunately, dental implants are highly successful and do not require more maintenance than regular teeth. While the dental implant post rarely fails, it is possible for the artificial tooth on top of the dental implant to experience wear and tear with time. If this happens, please schedule dental implant repair.
